CHRONO TRIGGER (Upgrade Ver.) App Reviews

Love the game! The controls, while a bit wonky, are perfectly usable. However, when I upgraded my phone I found a few bugs: The flavor text for magic spells has symbols put in the wrong place, ex: "Attack all enemies with holy light (light magic symbol)" Became: "Attack all enemies with hol(light magic symbol)ight" Also, all times I visit Spekkio after I first meet him, instead of asking me if I want to practice, he instead tries to teach me magic again—which then removes all of my spells. But beyond those, still great! I just figured out that this is a DS port, so I was actually missing out on some stuff! Time to play through it again...

Make sure you save first...... Dont find out the hard way. Use the Golden Gemstone with frog... Then go check your 3 person Tech with frog... Crash...

As my first time playing Chrono Trigger, I didnt know what to expect. After playing for just about an hour, Im already enjoying the game! But my original intent on buying this game on the App Store (rather than just buying a physical DS card) was so that I can use my Nimbus controller to play the game. I was pretty disappointed that I couldnt use my controller to play the game, like I can with many other games on the App Store. If the developers could add MFI support for the Nimbus controller, then this game would definitely receive 5 stars from me. PLEASE add support for the Nimbus controller!

Every time I play through this game on other systems I always make a point to go to death peak to advance that particular story arc. However I can barely progress with the touch controls which make it near impossible to get through this section that requires fine control over the characters. I cannot give this game more stars knowing a whole section of the game is practically blocked off due to poor controls. To top it off the tech bug in new game+ talking to spekkio who resets your progress is completely unacceptable. SE heavily supports FF and has completely abandoned this gem in their repertoire. I can not in good conscious continue to support this company when they refuse to take the time to fix critical problems in their games. This review will remain one star until they fix this game which probably wont happen.

Square Enix needs to honor us for buying this by not ripping us off. Im the New Game+ when you speak to Spekkio (required in the game) at the End Of Time, YOU LOSE YOUR TECH MAGIC!!!!! Not cool! FIX this!!!! Do not buy this!!!!

This is easily the best game on my phone. The touch controls take some getting used to, but are not that bad.

The two biggest issues I have with the app: 1.) It crashes when trying to see the partys Triple Techs on the menu. This hasnt been fixed yet, which is super annoying. 2.) Death Peak is a nightmare to navigate with the controls. It is possible, though. That being said, I love that this is available on iOS. I still have my SNES cartridge, have the ROM on my computer, got the PS version, but still needed to play it on my phone. Haha! Im actually glad this doesnt include the cutscenes that were added to the PlayStation one.

I know if more effort was put into this it could be better. Ive played several console to mobile games and the controls were bad, but not this bad. Also the menu and dialog format is sloppy as f***. it literally feels like a newbie programmer put this together overnight. Otherwise this is one of the greatest games IMO Im just going to emulate this for my 8 year old to experience.

Square Enix seems to have put this game aside. Their update frequency is very sporadic. This doesnt look good for Square Enix. Specially when the game has very critical bugs like the Spekio one. Touch controls need fixing. It would be a lot nicer if you could touch the character or enemy that you want. The game desperately needs gamepad compatibility. This would be of great help. One last thing is the bug when playing New Game+ and you talk to Spekio your characters lose their techs. That bug is unacceptable.

I freeze constantly on a 6 and I havent been able to finish the game due to losing progress pretty regularly.

I feel like this game was quickly ported because the company thought they could make $$ and then it was forgotten. The other Square games have gotten so much more love. Most if not all of them have the option to save a game file to the cloud but CHRONO doesnt. Also its never been tweaked to fit the larger iPhone screens. Correct the iCloud issue and its at least 4/5 stars.

Top number 1 rpg of all time. Only problem when you buy and upgrade weapons it should change attack color and weapon look! This is missing in this port. So sad whats the point in having your weapon look the same though the entire game even after you upgrade it!?

The background music appears to be broken in iOS 10, on iPhone 6S Plus. Otherwise, Ive enjoyed playing this immensely on my iOS devices over the years. Would love to again, but a big part of the experience of this game is the music; I consider it unplayable without.

Of course the game is wonderful. But can we get an update with at least cloud saves?

This is definitely the game we all know and love, but it needs a few tweaks to make it work on mobile devices. First, CLOUD SAVES - this is a no-brainer! How did they not add this feature?! Second, as other reviewers have pointed out, there are a few points in the game that can be difficult to navigate. Also some lingering bugs here or there. Cant speak to controller support, Ive always managed to get by without one. Overall, still a wonderful game with a few things that need to be tweaked to take it up to 5-star perfection.

New game plus has a serous tech glitch. As you try to replay the game, it will force you to reset your techs on your primary character as well as two more in your party. Once you lose these, you will never get them back. Similar to many glitch ridden games that Square puts out for the App Store, this is just another money grab, with no technical support. The company that made this game available has no intention to fix the problem, and refuses to refund all the people they have ripped off. Dont let them rip you off.

I love this game. Im on my 3rd new game + and I cant get past death peak. Its plain impossible sometimes to stay behind the trees.

At least once per day Ive played this, I have to reboot my phone to get music playing and not just effects.

I just bought this am regretting it. Its stuck to the old iphone screen sizes and lacks MFI controllers. For $15, this had better be updated!

EDIT: I know Death Mountain seems impossible but it can be done. First figure out by looking at the texture on the ground and memorize where the first tree will be... then flick the virtual joystick to the right less or more and see how much you were off when you go up to the second tree. The controls take practice, you can use just one hand to play. They did change dialog and item names, I see that often with iPhone games for some reason. This is still Chrono Trigger on the go with your phone.
