Needs a fix

This is my favorite game of all time. It literally changed my life when I was a kid, so I love having the chance to play it so conveniently now. That being said, I would rate it five stars if there were an option for a stationary D-pad. Control is very difficult in certain places with only the option for a dynamic D-pad. Update this and youll get five stars from me.

One small issue, one MASSIVE issue

I loved every second of Chrono Trigger. As a kid born in 1998, and never getting anything more or less than a Wii and DSXL in terms of gaming devices, I really missed out when this first came out. But now Ive finished my first round through, and I look back, and know why this is called one of the greatest games ever made. It deserves the title. Every death was my fault. I never once felt cheated. There are only two point in the entire 28+ hours that I spent on this game, that I disliked. Those being the unholy amount difficulty the initial climb of death peak brought me. I get that it has to be tough, because getting Chrono back will ultimately make the rest of the game easier, but you have to remember that this game was originally meant for the SNES. And for the most part, I cannot complain about the controls. They were a bit awkward at times, but it was nothing I couldnt get over or grow accustomed to. That is, until I got to death peak. The controls fell apart. They unraveled at the seams. The accuracy needed to properly align yourself with the first tree is almost impossible to do, since your not using an SNES controller, which the game was originally designed to work with. But my human hand can make the characters go in more than four directions, on this touch screen. But I managed to get up, so its not impossible. But lets just say that I wouldve clocked in at 24+ hours had climbing not been so difficult. Also, the thing that automatically made me furious, and almost rage quit. Yeah, I lost 20 levels when I started new game plus. I was at level 54, I start new game plus, check my stats, level 34 now. Yeah, looks like I wont be defeating lavos when I make it to the black omen for the first time in the story, again. I was only at like level 24 at that point. Theres no way in Gods name that Ill be able to level up to 54 again by that point. And I was grinding the hell out of any enemy that respawned when I went to the next screen. And Im just guessing, that leveling up takes longer as you get higher up. So Im screwed. All Ive got are these purple time portals all over the place, thats the only difference between me when I first started, and right now. Well, I can probably one shot anything for the first few levels, but still! How is that a new game plus?! It has to be a bug. Please fix that. Im fine playing through the game again, but I wanted my second round to get me farther than just repeating everything all over again because anything else would kill me. God that was a mouth full. So yeah, Id have rated this game 7/5, but I wanted my new game plus, and I was given what is basically an empty shell in comparison. 4/5 stars from me. Fix the new game plus thing, and itll be 7/5.

Really?!

At first there is nothing wrong with this game. Not until I got to death peek and because of the touchscreen I have it a very difficult time getting past the first section and with no control support this game is pretty much a waste of money.

Disappointed

Chrono Trigger is an old SNES game, but Square didnt port it that well. Heres why I think that is: -30 fps, whereas the original is 60. This makes the game look less smooth and interferes with animations. -Weird slowdown. Look at the "attract mode" (before starting at the menu). Does the music line up the same way it did on the SNES? It didnt for me. -Ugly typeface. It clashes with the low-resolution sprites and gives the game a cheaper look.

Miss one feature for new age gamer

This game has everything I remember from my early gaming years. The music, the characters, the sprites! I start the game and for the brief times I play Im taken back to the hay day of old school RPGs where the enemies were relentless unless you put in the work. Overall a great port. One area lacking for a mobile game would be the ability to upload your save data to your iCloud account to continue your adventure one multiple devices or if you uninstall and decide to pick up later in life. Otherwise excellent and well worth the money.

Good, but...

Wish you could set it to level 99 and turn off encounters like FFVII.

Looks bad on iPad.

Im giving this app a 2 star rating because it really does not look good on a big screen, unfortunate, since its such a classic. To download the game to your iPad go to the iPhone only tab in the App Store, you should be able to reach it from there.

Amazing

Battle controls arent as fast as snes controller and take some getting used to. Other than that flawless. The best videogame ever created.

Good with issue

The game is really good, I believe it has a lot to offer that todays gases lack. Come play this. However, there is a serious issue with the d-pad. When trying to climb death peak, I cant because the control scheme is so incredibly lousy. Fix this and youll get 5 stars. I rated this because, to me, this is a game breaking issue.

Cue Robos Theme Here

For the price, this port is great! There are a lot of complaints about controls (especially on Death Peak) but everything is playable and passable. I do wish there was iCloud support but that doesnt mean this stops becoming the greatest rpg of all time. Now, off to fight Lavos again! (Cue Lavos screech)

Please

Chrono Trigger is my most favorite game in the world and second is Legend Of Mana for the PlayStation One if you guys make Legend Of Mana for phone you guys will be my favorite people in the world thanks

Amazing game, few bugs

This is possibly the best video game ever released, but this port has a few problems. 1. Whenever I tried to view my partys triple techs, the game would crash. 2. At one point near the end of the game, the game deleted all the techs that three of my party members learned, so I had to spend two hours grinding to get the techs back. 3. The game never let Crono learn his final tech luminaire. It would not even acknowledge that the tech existed. Without these problems, this game would be perfect, but these hurt gameplay. The game is still a good experience for any buyer however.

Great RPG but fix the frame rate

Please fix the frame rate! Looks choppy!! (Frame skip to 0)

Best SNES Game

This game is amazing, the story and fighting system were some of the best ever made. The port to ios was good and the only thing I would change is to allow the touchpad use outside if the square screen. They also changed some of the good dialog that I remembered. For example "Heal thy.. got a nice ring to it." was changed to "hope.. got a nice ring" dont know why they changed that iconic phrase.

Crashes, poor touch controls

Awesome game! iPhone version? Not so good. * The touch controls are very frustrating at times. Selecting an enemy with a button!? Why cant I just touch the enemy I want? Trying to "walk" with the D pad? Almost impossible. You always run. Makes death park very hard. * Game crashes when viewing triple tech. In fact it just crashed and I lost 20 minutes of play time. * Game normally auto pauses, except when you are fighting Lavos. I was in the middle of fighting, got a call and POOF - I had to start the fight over. * Graphics are blurry. * Spekkio is bugged. If you visit him after getting Magus, he will forget you already learned magic and RESET all your magic techs. I expect more quality from Square, especially for the high price.

Bloated software

The original game was 5mB in size. This game is over 600mB in size. Why on earth did the size of the code increase by over 100 times? This is very suspicious.

Excellent but missing 1 thing

Wonderful port of one of the best RPGs ever made. The only thing holding it back has nothing to do with the game itself. It is a feature that would modernize it for our current time and that is cloud saving. I bought this game when it first became available on the App Store. I just hit a new device and now I have to start all over again. I would like to keep my current save file but without cloud saving it is not possible. SquareEnix if your reading this please update with cloud saving.

Excellent yet you can do more

This is an excellent port/remake of chrono trigger yet I miss the colosseum of ages. It would work well on the phone and I really think it should be added to chrono trigger mobile.

Great but needs iCloud support and crashes in Techs menu

Awesome game, good touch screen controls, and fun to play, I wish there was iCloud support, and also it crashes on the tech menu sometimes when I am looking at triple techs

Surprised how great it is

Such a great port. Everything is as it was with menus and controls redone and while movement is a bit hard to get used to it has done nothing to damage my enjoyment of this classic.
